Marine Mammal Health + Stranding Program Specialist
Location: Silver Spring, MD (on-site + travel required)
Type: Full-time
Travel: Nationwide travel required (East Coast, West Coast, Alaska)
Overview: CASE is seeking a senior-level scientist to support NOAA’s Marine Mammal Health and Stranding Response Program (MMHSRP). This position blends science, veterinary coordination, technical writing, and emergency response support.
Key Responsibilities include:
Draft technical reports and policy documents related to Unusual Mortality Events (UMEs)
Assist with necropsies and stranding response coordination
Support marine mammal rehabilitation facility inspections
Develop updated rehabilitation guidelines
Present findings to scientific and policy audiences
Assist with health surveillance data management
Education, Knowledge, and Skills Required:
BS in marine biology, veterinary science, wildlife health, or related field
5+ years relevant experience (Scientist/Senior Scientist level)
Experience with marine mammal health, pathology, or stranding networks
Strong scientific writing background
