Social Media + Digital Engagement Specialist – NOAA Fisheries West Coast Region
Position Overview:
CASE is seeking a creative, detail-oriented Social Media & Digital Engagement Specialist to support the Communications and External Affairs (CEA) Branch of NOAA Fisheries’ West Coast Region (WCR). This role blends science communication, online community engagement, and multimedia content development to make NOAA’s work in conserving living marine resources accessible and engaging for a wide range of audiences.
In partnership with NOAA Fisheries’ communications, scientific, and management teams, you will plan, produce, and manage digital content for WCR social media channels, stakeholder newsletters, and other online platforms. You’ll help translate complex marine science and policy information into clear, compelling stories that connect with stakeholders, partners, and the public.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain an annual and quarterly social media content calendar for Facebook, Instagram, and X that highlights WCR achievements, science, and conservation work.
Create accurate, visually engaging multimedia content (narratives, infographics, photos, videos) in collaboration with NOAA experts.
Coordinate with NOAA Science Centers and Headquarters to align messaging and maximize campaign impact.
Monitor analytics, produce monthly performance reports, and recommend strategies to improve outreach.
Manage stakeholder email listservs via Government Delivery, ensuring timely newsletters and targeted updates.
Serve as a backup for graphic product development, helping scope, design, and clear brochures, infographics, reports, and signage.
Stay current on digital engagement trends and advise NOAA staff on best practices for social media and online community management.
Qualifications
Proven experience managing organizational presence on Facebook, Instagram, X, Flickr, and other platforms.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex science for general audiences.
Proficiency in graphic design tools (Adobe Illustrator, Canva, Lumen5) and data visualization.
Familiarity with SEO, Google Analytics, and social media metrics.
Experience developing integrated multimedia storytelling in a science, environmental, or conservation context.
Collaborative work style with experience in program planning and project management.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace tools.
