Antarctic Field Research Technician – U.S. AMLR Program

Location:  Antarctica + Punta Arenas, Chile + La Jolla, CA
Clearance: Public Trust Eligible. Must be US citizen or authorized to work in the US.
Travel: Extended Antarctic deployment required

Position Overview:

CASE is seeking adventurous, resilient, and highly capable field researchers to support NOAA Fisheries’ U.S. Antarctic Marine Living Resources (AMLR) Program.

This role supports internationally recognized Antarctic ecosystem research focused on marine mammals, seabirds, fisheries ecology, and ecosystem-based management under the Antarctic Marine Living Resources Convention Act.

Personnel will deploy to remote Antarctic field camps supporting scientific operations in one of the most challenging and unique environments in the world.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Antarctic field camp preparation, logistics, and deployment readiness

  • Assist with pinniped and seabird research activities

  • Collect biological, ecological, and imagery datasets in remote environments

  • Support animal handling, tagging, instrumentation, and observational studies

  • Maintain field equipment, safety gear, inventories, and camp operations

  • Participate in camp maintenance, safety operations, and daily living activities

  • Process and QA/QC scientific data and imagery following field deployments

  • Support reporting, protocol development, and scientific documentation

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree or higher in oceanography, fisheries science, engineering, data science, physics, or related discipline

  • Experience working in remote or austere environments preferred

  • Experience handling wildlife or conducting field ecology research desirable

  • Wilderness medicine or field safety certifications preferred

  • Ability to live and work in isolated field environments for extended periods

  • Strong teamwork, adaptability, and operational discipline required
