Fish and Wildlife Biologist - ESA Section 7

Position Overview:

CASE Consultants International is seeking experienced Fish and Wildlife Biologists to support the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) through the Experienced Services Program (ESP)—a distinctive opportunity created for professionals aged 55 and older who want to continue making a difference.

In this project-based role, biologists will bring their scientific and technical expertise to bear on Endangered Species Act (ESA) Section 7 consultations, playing a direct role in the protection and recovery of threatened and endangered species. Projects span a wide geographic area, including the continental United States, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands.

This position offers a unique chance for seasoned professionals to contribute meaningfully to environmental conservation while continuing a career grounded in public service and ecological stewardship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft Standing Analysis documents in compliance with ESA Section 7 (25%)

  • Develop Determination Keys (DKeys) for federally listed species (30%)

  • Generate automated concurrence and technical assistance letters through the IPaC system (10%)

  • Prepare informal and formal Section 7 consultation documents (10%)

  • Identify and synthesize the best available scientific and commercial data (25%)

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience with ESA Section 7 consultations, OR

  • A Bachelor’s degree in fish and wildlife biology or related field (Master’s preferred), OR

  • Completion of formal Section 7 consultation training

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment

Additional Information

  • This is a project-driven part-time position funded for approximately 1,508 hours over an 18-month period (up to 29 hours per week), subject to change based on budget and project needs

  • Background investigation may be required prior to onboarding

  • Remote-only work setup; candidates must have access to a suitable home office
